International Rally 2003

Sweden

International Rally Booking form                                                                            The DFDS Booking form

As you can see, we now have the booking form for the International Rally in Sweden, this is nice and early and gives you plenty of time to consider the possibilities of attending, so far this appears to be a very well organised rally with the input of plenty of thoughts and ideas to help make it a success, Sweden is renown for its high cost of living but as we have found before at previous Scandinavian rallies, by opting to go self catering you can keep the costs down comparable to UK prices.

The two main ferry routes to Sweden are from Newcastle to Gothenburg, leaving you with a 110 mile  journey down to Molle or Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark, leaving you to travel 180 miles across Denmark to Kastrup (Copenhagen), across the Storebaelt Toll bridge (15 miles) and the Oeresund Toll bridge to Lernmacken (Malmo) in Sweden and then 60 miles North to Molle.

If you went to the Danish International via Esbjerg in 1992 you would have used a ferry crossing between Fuen and Sealand, this has now been replaced by the Storebaelt Toll Bridge for which you have to pay around £10 one way for a motorcycle, double that for a car under 6m long, up to £30 if you are towing a caravan or in a mobile home over 6m long.

The Oeresundsbron toll for the bridge that links Denmark to Sweden is the same one way price , cars are charged around £19 but towing a caravan, vans and mobile homes cost almost £45 one way.

The exchange rate for the Swedish Kronor varies depending where you look, the lowest that I have seen is 13.713 to the pound, to make sure that there will be enough monies to cover any fluctuation in the exchange rate at the time of transfer in May 2003 I have used a rate of 13.125, if at the date of transfer there is a surplus, then as has been done many times in the past, there will be a proportional refund to every pre-booked person.

The form itself is easy to fill in, if you are interested in the cavewalking, rappelling and lighthouse tour, just state how many are interested and pay approx £30 for all three, per person at the rally.

The dinner and dance price £5 for a child up to 16 years of age means that it will be for a small meal only, if you do not think that it will be sufficient then you should pay the adult price.

If you have any allergies or dislikes of certain foods, please indicate this near the bottom of  the form.

If you wish to rent accommodation then you can book and reserve this through myself before you make any payment, just let me know as soon as possible, you can see detailed pictures of the accommodation at www.mollehassle.com/, if you do not have access to the internet let me know and I will send you a detailed information copy of the accommodation that you are interested in.

Please sign and date the completed form, if you wish to see the rules and conditions either look at the, www.bsaoc.org/int website or contact myself for a copy, at this site you can also see an example of the accommodation available and a whole host of other information

The rally site will be open for you to stay from Friday the 8th.

Saturday you can book in and receive your rally T-shirt, rally magazine and surprise gift with a BBQ to be held later in the day.

Sunday at 2pm will be the official opening ceremony of the rally with some local entertainment.

Monday is the day for the cavewalking, rappelling down the cliffs and lighthouse guiding.

Tuesday at midday is the start of the line up at Kullaberg Nature Reserve with a snack lunch included, at 8pm the start of the Lucas night run, it should still be daylight then.

Wednesday you have the day to please yourself, the committee meeting of International representatives takes place at 11am followed by the dinner and dance at 8pm at the Grand Hotel in Molle.

Thursday at 10am is the museum tour by coach when you will visit Krapperup Castle, Hoganas Ceramics and The Museum of War, this sounds like a full day, at some stage you will be given a taste of Artsoppa, the Swedish national Thursday dish, perhaps this will be similar to our Great British Friday national dish of fish and chips.

Friday at 5pm will see the start of the silly games and at 8pm will be the inclusive BBQ and farewell party with a live band (Abba perhaps?)

Saturday is for packing up and saying goodbye until 26/07/-01/08/2004 (provisional date) near Berlin in Germany.

If you look at page 11 of the October edition of the Star you will see more information regarding the rally and camp site, with information about sea ferry shipment to Sweden, Denmark and Germany on the following page.
